DESCRIPTION:The Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries (IAC
 RL) and the University of Illinois Springfield&#8217\;s Brookens Library a
 re pleased to host a&#160\;FREE&#160\;viewing of the Association of Colleg
 e and Research Libraries webinar&#160\;&#8220\;Be Proactive: Overcoming Bi
 ases and Microaggressions in the Workplace.&#8221\;&#160\;&#160\;This is a
  recorded webinar\, lasting approximately one hour\, and is open to all li
 brarians and staff\, including academic and public.&#160\;Membership in IA
 CRL is not required to attend.\nA full description of the webinar and the

  in preparation\, but attend even if you don&#8217\;t have time to look th

 nPresenters: Shamika Dalton\, interim associate director and professor of 
 legal research at University of Florida Levin College Law\; Michele Villag
 ran\, assistant professor in the School of Information at San Jose State U
 niversity.\nAs human beings\, we cannot hide from bias: It is a natural pa
 rt of our brain. However\, it is up to us to recognize how biases in the w
 orkplace impact others and our own productivity. This webcast will help at
 tendees identify biases\, explore how they affect the work environment\, a
 nd discuss strategies for reducing these biases within recruitment\, hirin
 g\, and retention in the library workplace. We will define the various typ
 es of microaggressions that can result from these biases and offer practic
 es for addressing and coping with them. Minimizing and addressing implicit
  bias and microaggressions can help foster a safe and inclusive work envir
 onment.\nLearning outcomes:\n&#8226\; Identify biases and microaggressions
  and how they impact the various aspects of the workplace\n&#8226\; Explor
 e effective practices for minimizing biases and microaggressions in the wo
 rkplace to create a positive and inclusive work environment\n&#8226\; Lear
 n strategies for reducing bias in library recruitment\, hiring\, and reten
 tion\n&#160\;\nViewing will take place on&#160\;Wednesday\, June 12\,&#160
 \;from&#160\;1:00 to 4:00 PM\, in Room 230A\, the library&#8217\;s new Lea
 rning Classroom on the Library&#8217\;s Main Floor\, opened in October 201
 8. Pattie Piotrowski\, University Librarian and Dean of Libraries for the 
 University of Illinois Springfield\, will give a brief welcome. Also\, fol
 lowing the event\, please stay for&#160\;FREE&#160\;refreshments and an in
 formal opportunity to converse with colleagues on a variety of table topic
 s including Open Educational Resources (OER)\, imposter syndrome\, and oth
 ers. The event will start at 1:00 with the introduction\, then the 1-hour&
 #160\;FREE&#160\;webinar itself\, refreshments\, and\, finally\, the discu
 ssions afterwards\, which will be informal and may last until 4:00 PM. Fee
 l free to attend just the webcast or the discussions (the latter starting 
 at approximately 2:30 PM)\, or both. It will be a time to get acquainted w
 ith new colleagues and re-acquainted with familiar faces in Illinois Libra
