Public Policy Committee

Committee Charge

Provides the association’s focus on legislative matters; recommends studies on projects designed to advance the development of all types of libraries; advocates legislative action which advances library service for all residents of Illinois.

The PPC chair serves ex officio on the ILA Advocacy Committee.

Committee Composition

Composed of twelve voting members, serving three-year, staggered terms. The committee will have a chair and a vice chair. The vice-chair will serve as chair in the year following service as vice-chair. Non-voting ex officio members are the ILA executive director, the director of the Illinois State Library, ILA president, ILA vice president/president-elect, ILA past president, the chair of the ILA Intellectual Freedom Committee, the chairs of the ILA Advocacy Committee, a representative of the school library community (AISLE), a representative of the academic library community (CARLI), a representative of each of the three library systems.

ILA Public Policy Committee Legislative Proposals

The ILA Public Policy Committee is interested in hearing ideas regarding potential legislation from ILA members. To help us understand your concept and make a decision on supporting it, please answer the following questions. Some research may be needed in order to answer some of them; the more complete the information you are able to provide, the easier it will be for PPC to evaluate your proposal.
